பொங்கல் திருநாள், தமிழர் திருநாள் என்கிற பெருமை கொண்டது. உழவுத் தொழிலுக்கு விழா எடுக்கும் தமிழர்களின் மேன்மையை உலகுக்கு உணர்த்துவது. இந்த விழாவில் அனைவரும் புத்தாடை அணிந்து, புதுப்பானையில் புத்தரிசி பொங்கலிட்டு வழிபாடுகளை நடத்துவது தமிழர்களின் தனிச்சிறப்பு.
I prepared the yummy dishes for today's special occasion. We used to prepare these kind of recipes on every year Pongal. It tastes great and good combination. Instead of Raw Plantain Fry, you can prepare potato fry also.

Sweet Pongal/ சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கல்

Coriander Chutney /கொத்தமல்லி துவையல்
Sweet Pongal
Ingredients
Raw Rice – 1 cup
Moong Dhal – 1 Cup
Jaggery – 1 ½ to
2 Cups (as per your taste)
Milk – 1 to 1 ½ Liter
Salt – a pinch
Cardamom Seeds – ¼
tsp
Cashew Nuts – 1 handful
Dry Grapes – 1 handful
Ghee – ½ to ¾ Cup
Method
Soak rice and
dhal together in water for about 1 hour. In a pot/vessel/Pressure Cooker, bring
milk to boil. Once it done, add the soaked rice and dhal with little salt. Keep
cook until it becomes mushy like well cooked. Add cardamom seeds & half
amount of ghee and mix it well. Add jaggery powder and mix it well. Switch off
the flame. Heat remaining ghee in a pan, add dry grapes and cashew nuts fry for
few seconds then transfer it into sweet Pongal.
Vethu Pongal
Ingredients
Raw Rice – 1 Cup
Moong Dhal – 1 Cup
Grated Coconut –
1 ½ to 2 Cups
Salt to taste.
Ghee – 2 tsp
Cashew Nuts – a handful
Method
Soak rice and
dhal together for about 1 hour. Bring milk to boil in a vessel/pot/cooker. Once
it done, add rice and dhal. Once the mixture cooked well, add required salt and
grated coconut, then mix well. Switch off the flame. Heat ghee in a pan, add the
cashew nuts and fry for a min, then add this into Vethu Pongal.
Mixed Vegetable Curry
Ingredients
Mixed Vegetables –
1 Cup
Chopped Onions –
1 (big)
Chopped Tomato –
1 (big)
Chopped Garlic –
5 Pods
Chopped Ginger –
1 tsp
Turmeric Powder –
½ tsp
Chilli Powder – ½
tsp
Coriander Powder –
1 tsp
Chopped Capsicum –
¼ cup
Vadagam – ½ tsp
Curry Leaves –
few
Coriander Leaves –
few
For
Paste
Grated Coconut –
3 tsp
Fennel Seeds – ½ tsp
Method
Soak Moong Dhal
for about 30 min to 1 hour. Bring water to boil, add soaked dhal and all the
chopped vegetables, with little salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, Coriander
powder. Close the lid and keep cook for another 10 minutes on medium flame, add
coconut paste and switch off the flame.
Heat oil in a
pan, add vadagam and curry leaves, fry for few seconds. Then add sliced onions,
tomato, fry until it becomes mushy. Then add ginger, garlic, capsicum fry for a
min. Transfer it into mixed veg curry.
Raw Plantain Curry
Sliced Plantain –

Sliced Onions – 1

Chopped Tomato –

Chilli Powder – ½

Coriander Powder –
1 tsp
Slt to taste
Oil – 2 tsp
Vadagam = ½ tsp
Curry Leaves -few
Chopped coriander
leaves – few
Method
Heat oil in a
pan, add vadagam, curry leaves, then fry for few min. Add sliced plantain
pieces with little salt and turmeric powder. Add chopped onions, tomatoes till
it becomes mushy. Then add chilli powder, coriander powder with required water.
Close the lid and sprinkle oil, cook until it gets roasted well. Switch off the
flame.
Coriander Chutney
Washed and
Chopped Coriander Leaves – a handful
Grated Coconut –
3 tsp
Red Chilli – 2
Salt to taste
Tamarind – a blueberry
sized ball
Oil – 1 tsp
Method
Heat oil in a
pan, add the ingredients one by one and saute it for few min. Switch off the
flame. Let it cool down and grind it well.Have these yummy
side dishes with yummy Pongal.
