Drumstick Leaves Kootu

Drumstick leaves has a rich source of Iron and Vitamin A. it’s a simple and healthy recipe. Do not cook the keerai over high flame as it lead to loss nutrients.

This recipe helps to reduce hair falling. I have added small onions; it gives very nice taste to this dish. This goes well with steamed rice / dosa/ idli…




Ingredients

Drumstick Leaves – 2 cups
Chopped Small Onions – ½ cup
Chopped Tomato - 1
Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Toor Dal – 1/2 cup
Crushed Garlic – 3 cloves
Tamarind Water– 1/5 cup
Coconut Paste – 5 tsp
Salt to taste

To temper

Vengaya Vadagam – ½ tsp
Curry Leaves – few
Dry Red Chilli – 1
Oil – 2 tsp

Method

Take pressure cooker add toor dal with turmeric powder, salt and water for 3 whistles.

When the steam has released from pressure cooker, open and blend it well with curved spoon.

In a pan heat oil and fry vengaya vadagam, curry leaves and red chilli. Then add chopped onions and fry well. Then add crushed garlic, tomatoes and fry for about 3 minutes.

Now add cumin powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and tamarind water. Then add everything into pressure cooker.

Then cook for another 2 to 3 whistles come out. Once it done add coconut paste and cook for about 2 min.

Now the drumstick leaves kootu is ready to serve.
