Chingri Macher (Bengali Style Shrimp Curry)

This is one of the most delicious shrimp recipes in Bengali. I explored Bengali style cooking in my kitchen. Here I am sharing simple and easy prawn curry recipe. In this dish, shrimp and potato fried and cooked with various Indian spices. This goes well with rice, roti, paratha, luchi etc.,

Ingredients for Shrimp Curry

Finely Chopped Onions – 2 (Big)

Finely Chopped Tomatoes – 3 (Big)

Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp

Chilli Powder – 1 ½ tsp

Coriander Powder – 3 tsp

Garam Masala – ½ tsp

Salt to taste

Curry Leaves – a handful

Oil- 4 tsp

To Marinate

Cleaned & Washed Shrimp/Prawn – 1 lb.

Cubed Potato – 1 (big)

Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp

Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp

Salt little

To Temper

Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp

Cinnamon Sticks – 1 inch

Bay Leaf – 1

Cloves – 3

Anise - 1

Finely Chopped Green Chilli – 2

Method

In a bowl add cleaned shrimp pieces, cubed potatoes, 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder with required salt and little oil, then mix well and keep it aside for 20 minutes.

Heat oil in a pan, add the marinated shrimp pieces and fry for few minutes, then take it out and keep aside.

Add the marinated potato pieces and fry for few minutes and keep it aside.

In the remaining oil, add the tempering ingredients one by one and fry for few seconds.

Add the chopped onions, salt and fry until it gets translucent. Then add the chopped tomato pieces and cook until it becomes mushy.

Add ginger garlic paste, chilli powder, coriander powder and mix well.

Add 2 cups of water and cook for another 5 minutes. Once it done, add the fried shrimp and potato pieces and keep cook for another 10 minutes.

Once it done switch off the flame and serve hot with steamed white rice or roti.
