A further possible source of the name is the ingredient chayote, which is itself known as chow chow in India.

Chayote (Chow Chow) – 1 (Big)
Chopped Onion – 1 (Big)

Method
Peel the skin of chayote and remove the seed. Cut into small cubes and keep it aside.

Method

Heat oil; add mustard
seeds, when it splutters add red chilly, curry leaves, urad & Bengal dals
turn golden brown color, add onions and garlic fry till it turns transparent.
Then add chopped chayote, salt, turmeric and cook covered till soft (No need to add water).
