Bitter Gourd Pitlai



Bitter Gourd Pitlai is one tastiest and unique recipe. Normally kids won't like bitter gourd due to bitterness.


For them, you have try to make this curry by this method. This goes very well with steamed white rice, idli, dosa, curd rice and chapatti.

Based on your tongue twist you can add little jaggery into this. For additional taste I have added coconut paste.

Try this healthy and tasty bitter gourd pitlai!!! 
Ingredients
Chopped Bitter Gourd – 1 cup
Channa Dal – ½ Cup
Toor Dal – ½ cup
Salt to taste
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 ½ tsp
Coconut Paste – 3 tsp
Tamarind – small sized ball
To temper
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Dry Red Chilli – 2
Crushed Garlic – 4
Curry Leaves – few
Chopped Coriander Leaves – few
Oil – 1 tsp
Method
Soak tamarind in hot water for about 15 min and extract the juice and keep it aside for in a separate vessel.
In pressure cooker, add toor dal and channa with 2 cups of water and cook until 3 to 5 whistles comes out. Once it done, let it cool down and mash it well.
In a pan, heat oil. Add tempering items one by one and sauté it for few seconds. Then add chopped bitter gourd and fry well with little salt for about 3 to 4 min.
Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder, and coriander powder and tamarind water and keep cook on medium flame for another 5 min.
Now add mashed dals with this curry and mix well.
Finally add coconut paste to this curry and if you wish you can add a pinch of jaggery.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
