This
is one of the best combinations for idli & dosa. It gives the unique taste.
In this recipe, we roasted the coconut & chana dal & other ingredients
in oil.
Do
you think without chutney & sambar is it possible to have idli or dosa???
So try this method. And you definitely feel the difference from the normal one.

goes well with vada, idli, dosa, idiyappam, pongal, and upma…
Grated Coconut – 1 cup
Chana Dal (Kadalaiparuppu) – ¼ cup
Green Chillies – 7
Chopped Ginger – 2 tsp
Onion (small) – 6
Tamarind - few
Salt
Oil – 1 tsp
For Tempering
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Asafoetida / hing – ¼ tsp
Dry Red Chilli – 1
Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
Coriander Leaves – few
Method
In a pan, heat oil, add green chillies and chopped ginger pieces and fry for a min.
Now add the chana dal and roast well, once it turns slight golden brown color, then add grated coconut.
Keep fry until the raw smell goes well and it gets brown color. Then switch off the flame. Let it cool down for about 10 min.
Soak tamarind in water for about 10 min. Then keep peel the small onions and keep it aside in a separate bowl.
In a mixer grinder, add roasted ingredients, salt, small onions, tamarind and grind it well. Then keep it in a serving bowl.
In a pan, heat oil then adds mustard seeds. Once it splutters add urad dal, asafoetida, halved red chilli, curry leaves & coriander leaves.
Finally transfer this mix into serving bowl. Garnish with coriander leaves.
