Beans Paruppu Usili

Beans Paruppu Usili is a traditional South Indian dish which is prepared with lentils. It is a very healthy dish as it has lentils and is steam cooked.

Ingredients
Chopped Beans – 200 g
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Hing – ¼ tsp
Dry Red Chilli – 2
Green Chilli – 1
Toor Dal – ¼ cup
Bengal Gram – ¼ cup
Salt to taste
To Saute
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Chopped Onions – ½ cup
Curry Leaves – few
Method
Wash both dals and soak it for at least 1 hour.  In a blender add dals, green chilli, dry red chilli, hing, salt and make it as a rough paste.
In a vessel add water, turmeric powder, salt and chopped beans and cook for 10 minutes.
By meantime, add ground dals in idli pressure cooker and cook it for 10 minutes.
Turn out cooked dal on a large plate and cool. Crumble cooked dal to a coarse powder with your palm and fingers.
Heat oil in a shallow pan, temper with mustard seeds, red chillies, urad dal and curry leaves. Then add chopped onions and fry well.
Stir-fry briefly and add chopped green chillies. Add the cooked beans and crumbled dal mixture. Toss on high heat for a two to three minutes.
Reduce heat and cook, stirring frequently for five to six minutes or till the beans and dal start sizzling. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
