Green Gram Kootu

It’s a simple and easy dish. It’s a quick dish and I have added minimal ingredients. Green Gram Kootu is very nutritious and high in proteins. This goes well with steamed rice / chapatti / dosa / idli…


Ingredients

Green Gram Dhal – 1 cup
Chopped Onion – 1 (Big)
Chopped Tomatoes – 1 (big)
Sliced Green Chilli – 3
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Chopped Coriander Leaves – few

To Temper

Vengaya Vadagam – 1 tsp
Curry Leaves – few
Oil – 2 tsp

Method

Soak the green gram dhal through overnight. Then pressure cook the soaked dhal with turmeric powder, chilli and coriander powder and 3 cups of water and leave it until 5 whistles comes out.

Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, vengaya vadagam after they crackle add chopped onions and fry till it becomes mushy.

Then add chopped tomatoes fry till it turns translucent. Now add chopped coriander leaves.

In the cooked dhal add the fried mixture with salt to taste mix it well and cook for another 5 minutes on low flame.

Then switch off the flame and serve with hot steamed rice!!!
