Nellai Style Fish Kuzhambu | Nellai Fish Curry | நெல்லை மீன் குழம்பு

Nellai Fish Curry is tangy, spicy and tasty dish. This goes very well with steamed white rice, dosa and idli. This is an authentic fish curry recipe fresh and fragrant, that I learnt from popular Cooku with Comali Show👨‍🍳 👩‍🍳  from Vijay 📺 In that show, Kani sister tried this recipe and got good appreciation from judges. Here is the recipe.



Ingredients 

To Marinate Fish 

Fish Pieces - 8 

Salt to taste 

Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp 

For Ground Masala 

Sesame Oil - 1 tbsp 

Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp 

Coriander Seeds - 2 tbsp 

Dry Red Chilli - 10

Shallot / Chopped Red Onion - 1/2 Cup 

Grated Coconut - 1/3 Cup 

For Fish Curry 

Marinated Fish Pieces - 8

Chopped Shallots/ Red Onion - 1 Cup 

Chopped Tomatoes - 2

Sliced Garlic - 10 pods 

Chopped Raw Mango - 4 pieces 

Tamarind Water - 1 Cup 

Rice Water - 2 Cups 

Salt to taste 

To Temper 

Sesame Oil - 1/4 Cup 

Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp 

Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 tsp 

Curry Leaves - few

Slit Green Chilli - 2

Method 

Fish Marination 

Marinate the fish pieces along with turmeric powder and little salt then keep aside for about 15 to 30 minutes. 

For Ground Masala 

Heat sesame oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dry red chilli, grated coconut and onions then fry until raw smell goes well/ gets nice aroma.

Once it done, switch off the flame and let it cool down completely.

Then grind it as fine paste and keep aside.

Fish Curry 

Heat sesame oil in a pan. Add the tempering ingredients and sauté it for few seconds.

Add sliced garlic and chopped onions along with required salt, fry for few minutes.

Then add chopped tomatoes, give a nice mix, close the lid and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.

Add ground masala and fry for 2 minutes. 

Now add tamarind water, rice water and close the lid and cook for 10 minutes.

Drop the marinated fish pieces into fish curry. Cook it for 5 minutes.

Add chopped raw mango pieces and close the lid then cook for 5 minutes or until everything cooked well.

Finally add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.

Serve yummy and tasty nellai style fish curry with steamed white rice.
